Sport, Health and Exercise Science support the Marathon des Sable

In Sport, Health and Exercise Science Dr Andrew Garrett has been leading a short-term heat acclimation study, using the environmental chamber. The research team has recently recruited, locally-based, Marathon des Sables (2019) competitors (mean age 53 SD 4 yrs). Older populations have received limited attention in the research area.

This project has resulted in interest from BBC Look North News, BBC Radio Humberside and an article has been published in The Conversation.This all coincided with the Marathon des Sables race itself. It started on Sunday 7th April and will run for 6-days, covering 156 miles in the Sahara desert!
