Faculty colleagues attended the RCM awards having been  nominated for an award in the top four of a strong field.

Research grant for faculty

Jane Wray [Senior Research Fellow], Eric Gardiner [Statistician] from the FHSC in collaboration with a research team from Humber Foundation Trust have been awarded £2781 of research capability funding from Hull Clinical Commissioning Group. These funds are to support continuation of their work on carer involvement in acute Mental Health Services. The team have been undertaking a pilot study to assess the impact of involving carers of people with mental health difficulties in risk assessment and now they have the opportunity to develop this area of research further.  For more information about the CIVRA [Carer Involvement in Risk Assessment] project, please contact Jane Wray or Haley Jackson, Research Nurse at Humber Foundation Trust.

9 March was the launch of PoWER (Programme fOr Women achieving Excellence in Research).  This two year programme aims to support the University Athena SWAN agenda to encourage and commit to advancing the careers of women in Academia.   Our 50 women contributors will identify the barriers to progression and co-create tailored interventions to address these at individual and community level.   The programme aims to be lively and engaging and we are delighted to be able to host nationally and internationally recognised successful women as key note speakers. 

Rosie Millard, journalist and graduate of the University of Hull, currently Chair of Hull City of Culture 2017 was our first speaker and inspired us today with her amusing and moving stories of some of the challenges she has encountered in her work.  Her generosity is such that she allowed us to record her session and we have permission to share this among our colleagues.

Faculty choir celebrate International Women's day - in song

The women’s choir from The Faculty sang two songs today as part of International Women’s day.  The women's choir is Annete Schlosser, Angela Poat, Wendy Darnell, Mary Laurenson, Jane Tagzhouit, Julie Santy-Tomlinson, Helen Sisson and Zoe Wilkes.  

The songs were:  'True Colours' and 'You’ve Got a Friend'.

'True Colours' was originally sang by Anne Murray, a Canadian singer whose albums have sold over 54 million copies worldwide as of 2012; she was the first Canadian female solo singer to reach No. 1 on the U.S. charts.

'You’ve Got a Friend' was written and sung by Carole King.
