Professor Mark Hayter PhD RN, Professor of Sexual and Reproductive Health in the Faculty of Health and Social Care is to be elected to Fellowship of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in Washington DC, USA in Ocrober 2013.

The American Academy of Nursing (AAN), formed by the American Nurses Association in 1973,  is the leading nursing organisation in the USA.  The AAN is comprised of over 2,000 fellows who are nursing's most accomplished leaders in education, management, practice and research.  Recognition comes from extaordinary nursing careers and also the potential to make a contribution to American and international nursing in future.  More than 80% of fellows hold doctoral degrees with over 60% working as academics and 30% in practice.  Of the remaining 10%, some are working in government and federation agencies

The AAN began admitting international (ie non-US citizens) in 2007 and has since elected approximately 50 international FAANs, including only a handful of Europeans.
